About

Collaborative. Compassionate. Curious

Hello, I’m Kylie Andersen

I’m a counsellor and psychotherapist based in Sydney, Australia. I offer a warm, non-judgmental space to help you:

  • understand yourself – your triggers, patterns, blind spots
  • expand your coping mechanisms
  • experiment with new behaviours and ways of being in the world

I’m especially drawn to working with people who feel stuck in patterns of anxiety; who are experiencing emotional or binge eating; or who are having challenges in relationships.

I’m informed by parts work, mindfulness, somatic awareness, neurobiology, and a commitment to anti-oppressive practice.

What therapy with me is like

My approach is collaborative, compassionate and deeply curious

We talk, exploring your challenges, yourself and your life more deeply. Our first task is to really understand, to bring a compassionate curiosity to your current and past experiences. To notice patterns, tender spots, what has worked, what hasn’t.

I often use ‘parts’ work to help with the process. Parts are the different aspects of ourselves that show up in different moments in our lives (the movie ‘Inside Out’ does a lovely job of illustrating ‘parts’).

With noticing and understanding, the knots begin to loosen, and you begin to find some more flexibility and choice in how you respond to your internal world as well as the external world. We begin to explore different behaviours you may want to experiment with to see how that impacts your challenges.

It is a gentle process, with lots of kindness and compassion, where all parts of you are welcome.

A Bit About Me

Alongside my clinical training, my own long-term therapy journey has shaped who I am as a therapist and a person.

I have had my own mental health and life challenges and therapy has helped me find more understanding and kindness for myself, allowing me to live a life with more calm, fulfilment and connection.

I love ideas, reading, and the big questions: how to live well, how to stay connected to each other and the earth, how to be kind in a world that doesn’t always make that easy.

I hold these questions close as I sit with people and as I move through my own life.

If You’d Like to Work Together

It’s normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy, especially if you’re used to holding it all together on your own. If you’re curious, I invite you to reach out.

We can start with a conversation and see if it feels like a good fit.

You don’t need to know exactly what you need or where to begin. We can start right where you are.
